Kerala Itinerary for 12 days

Day 1 - Arrival at Kochi Airport and Transfer to Fort Kochi - [1.5 hours]

Upon arrival at Cochin international airport, our representative will be receiving you at the airport. Upon arrival transfer to Fort Kochi [1.5 hours]. In case if your arrival is in the morning you have the day at your disposal to prepare yourself for the forthcoming days in Kerala. Considering it being an international flight from UK or Europe, you have the day available for rest until evening.

Our representative will meet you at the hotel and brief you about the complete program. Later proceed for a short cruise in a motor boat through the backwaters of Kochi. The backwater allow kochi to become a natural harbor and port, that used to export tea and spices across the world. Return to the hotel after an hour of boat cruise. Overnight stay at the hotel of stay in Fort Kochi.

Day 2 - Sightseeing tour of Fort Kochi

An English speaking guide will meet you today and he will be taking you around Fort Kochi and Mattancherry tell you the story of the place. It is the reminiscence of Kochi that make it unique and important - Visit the Chinese nets, the St. Francis Church, built by the portuguese in the 16th century, the Dutch Palace of the Kochi Maharaja, and the Paradesi Synagogue located adjacent to the Dutch Palace. The tour will extend for two and a half to three hours.

You have the afternoon available for yourself, and by evening visit a local theatre where you can witness a Kathakali performance by a local artist. Kathakali is like a drama dance art form that is played based on a story from the Hindu mythology. The preperation for the dance itself is interesting where the artist paints colours on his face looking on a mirror. The preparation and performance, both can be experienced.

Day 3 - Drive to Munnar [4 hours]

Today you will drive up hill the Western Ghats, to a tea country popularly known as Munnar. Munnar is one of the highest high ranges in the Western Ghats, and houses the highest peak in South Indian named Anamudi (2695 metres). European planters came to Munnar during the second half of the nineteenth century and took over almost thirteen million acres of land on lease for plantation of tea from the Poonjar Royal family. As you enter the outskirts of Munnar, you can see vast acres of tea plantations carpeted over the mountain ranges like waves. 

By evening proceed for a plantation walk through the tea plantations along with an English speaking local guide who will talk more about tea and the plantation story of Munnar. Return to the hotel for overnight stay. The temperature of Munnar would be relatively cooler than that of the low lands of Kerala.

Day 4 - Visits in and around Munnar [4 hours]

This is going to be an interesting day, An English speaking guide will meet you today, later proceed to the Eravikulam National Park which is a National Park surrounding the Anamudi peak. This is home to the endangered mountain goat - Nilgiri Tahr. Further drive down to "Shrishti" the self help group making artifacts and the DARE School. Further drive past the Vegetable market at Munnar, towards Lockhart tea factory. A relatively smaller factory that process tea leaves into dried leaves, powder and dust. The factory follows the orthodox method of tea producing which is more interesting relative to the new generation model of crush tear and curl. Return to the hotel for lunch followed by time for yourself. By evening get engaged witht he activities available at the resort of stay.

Day 5 - Drive to the Cardamom hills, Thekkady [3 hours]

After breakfast, check out from the resort in Munnar and drive to the Cardamom hills. As you reach closer to Thekkady, you start to see large scale of Cardamom Plantations on both sides of the road. Unlike Munnar this region of the Western Ghats is more of woodlands and cardamom requires shade and that was how Cardamom plantations were popularised in this region by the Erstwhile Travancore kingdom. Apart from cardamom there are different varieties of other spices as well grown here like pepper, cinnamon and cloves.

On arrival at Thekkady visit a spice garden where a guide will explain to you about various spices, its raw form, its processing, the processed form, its uses, how it is packed and finally how it reaches your nearby supermarket shelves. Check in at the resort for overnight stay in Thekkady.

Day 6 - Nature walk at Periyar National Park

Get ready for a hiking trail through the Periyar National Park. The Periyar National Park is a Tiger Reserve as well as a region preserved with the distinct flora and fauna of the Western Ghats. The walk offers a window to a new world of wilderness, birds, butterflies and a lot more of this woodland. The hike is for four to five kilometres and will take around two and a half or three hours through evergreen, moist deciduous forest tracks and marshy grasslands. The program is accompanied by a local forest guard, who will act as your guide throughout the walk

By evening, drive to a local theatre, where you will take seats for a martial art performance, known as Kalaripayattu. This is going to be a performance which showcases the flexibility of the body of the fight participant, which is attained through practice of Kalaripayattu. They use multiple weapons like swords, daggers, Urumi, Long sticks and some more.

Day 7 - Drive to Kumarakom [3 hours]

Drive to Kumarakom, enroute visit a Syrian Christian family and have lunch enroute to experience the Syrian Christian cuisine of Kerala. Kumarakom is an agrarian backwater village on the banks of the Vembanad lake. Kumarakom is renowned for its natural beauty, backwaters, and serene atmosphere, making it a sought-after destination to relax watching the unending backwaters. Upon arrival, check in at the backwater resort.

You can see movements of houseboats and small fishermen groups moving up and down the backwaters and canals. The destinations houses the Kumarakom bird sanctuary, home to various species of migratory birds, including herons, egrets, darters, kingfishers, and more. There will be ample activities in house the resort to keep yourselves engaged and by evening a backwater sunset cruise will be organised from the resort of stay.

Day 8 - Village tour, and drive to Alleppey to board a houseboat [1 hour]

After breakfast, check out from the backwater resort and proceed for a village tour of Kumarakom. This program lasts for around one and a half to two hours where you get a chance to witness a typical backwater village lifestyle, sip toddy, sea mat weaving, agrarian lifestyle, paddy fields, country canoes and a lot more, the tour will be partially by boat and by foot.

Later drive to Alleppey to board a large houseboat which is exclusively booked for you. This houseboat is operated by a three member crew who is responsible for your experience on board the houseboat. The cruise take your through narrow canals and remote parts of the backwaters where you get to have a close glance of the backwater life and lifestyle. The lunch, hi tea, dinner and next day's breakfast are served on board. The cruise stops by evening and restarts only by next day morning.

Day 9 - 11 | Beach stay for three nights at Marari Beach

The experiential part of the tour is almost coming to an end, and you will be disembarking the houseboat and driving to Mararikulam, a fishermen village located on the shores of the Arabian sea. There are some nice resorts located on the beaches and they offer some amazing experiences. You will be staying in the beach resort of your choice for the next three nights after which the tour comes to an end. These properties will have pools and in house activities available for you to try and experience during your stay here.

Day 12 | Departure transfer to Cochin International Airport [2 hours]

Departure transfer to Cochin International Airport to board flight to the onward destination or to return back home. As a general rule, one should reach the Airport three hours before the international departure flight or two hours for business class passengers.

  • Once you have come to know all the details of the tour and have decided to go ahead with the tour, we would like to have a confirmation from your end. Following which we shall secure rooms at the respective hotels as per the type of price you have availed.

  • We shall send you a confirmation voucher with all the details of the tour.

  • Upon receiving the confirmation voucher from our end, we require an advance deposit of 60% of the total tour cost. For which we shall send you the payment links to make the advance deposit.

  • Rest of the payment can be made 14 days before the arrival date, for which we shall follow up with you.
